Light52: Week 21

One of my all-time favorite songs. *Someday* I'll learn to play it. For years, it was the closing song on every mix tape or CD I made for anyone. I remember falling asleep to it most nights the summer of 1990, when Eileen was in the hospital and I was living in Mertz. The following year I came to associate it with Brian and it had new connotations. Then it was a lullaby I sang to my babies. Now I sing it to myself, in the same mode I recall from 1990, as a rope to hold on to, reminding me that I'm alright for now.

Goodnight baby, sleep tight my love
May God watch over you from above
Tomorrow I'm workin' What would I do
I'd be lost and lonely if not for you
So close your eyes
We're alright for now

I've spent my life travelin'
Spent my life free
I could not repay all you've done for me

So sleep tight baby
Unfurrow your brow
And know I love you
We're alright for now
